Licensing FAQ

What is the difference between editorial and commercial use?

Editorial use illustrates a news story, article, documentary, book or educational piece. Commercial use promotes a product, service or brand — advertising, packaging, merchandise, corporate marketing. Photographs of recognisable people (drivers, musicians, public figures) and of events shot under media accreditation are licensed for editorial use only unless the people and rights holders have signed releases.

How fast can I get a licensed file?

Quotes go out within 24 hours. Once the licence is agreed and paid, the full-resolution file (processed from the original RAW) is delivered by secure download link, usually the same day.

Can I license a photo that is not shown in the online galleries?

Yes. The online galleries are a selection. The full archive covers motorsport, concerts and festivals, travel and street photography from Chile, the United States, Mexico and other countries, and aerial work in the Coquimbo Region. Describe the subject, place or year you need and I will send a contact sheet.

How are licence fees paid?

International clients are invoiced in US dollars and pay by card or bank transfer. Clients in Chile receive a factura in Chilean pesos. The licence takes effect when payment is received.

Can I use a gallery image without a licence if I credit you?

No. All images on this site are copyright Carlos Martinez and are not released under any open licence. A credit is a condition of the licence, not a substitute for one. Unlicensed use is invoiced at three times the applicable rate.
